Dear Valued SSC Members and Partners,

We are excited to announce that the contract for project SR-1481, titled "Guide for Application: FEA in Design and Assessment of Ship Structures" has been awarded to BMT Designers & Planners, Inc. of Alexandria, Virginia.  Work has commenced, and the expected completion is September 2019.

This project is intended to update the guidance in SSC-387 (9 MB) in order to support the production of high quality finite element analysis.  Accordingly, your feedback on SSC-387 would be most valuable!  If you have used  the guidance contained in SSC-387 to perform FEA, and found any areas in which it is outdated, inaccurate, or could be improved, SSC would like to hear about it.  Since it was published in 1996, a lot of developments have been made in FEA and the new report should reflect current practices.

What should be included in the new report that is not contained in SSC-387?  What parts of SSC-387 are obsolete?  Please send me an email with your feedback.

Thank you for your support of the Ship Structure Committee!

Sincerely,

Jonathan Duffett, LT, USCG
